A bunny is the amigurumi everyone makes at least once. Round head, round body, two long ears, and a puff for a tail. The ears are what make it a rabbit, so even the simplest body reads as a bunny the moment they go on. Most of these take an evening; the minis take an hour.
We opened and checked each of these 12 free patterns. There are no-sew keychain bunnies, a pocket bunny in Caron Simply Soft, a floppy-ear plush in chenille, a 15-inch bunny in blanket yarn, a giant bunny in chunky acrylic, and a mailman bunny with a bag. Each one lists the yarn and hook the designer used.

Which One Should You Make?
For a first bunny, make Lucy (#1) or the Jelly Bean Bunny (#6): both are no-sew, both have videos, both are done in an hour.
For an Easter basket or keychain, Supergurumi’s classic (#3) and the Pocket Bunny (#7) are small, firm and fast in cotton or worsted.
For a child’s cuddle toy, pick a chenille or blanket-yarn bunny: Floppy Ear (#8), Cory (#10) or the 15-inch Sherbet Bunny (#11), and embroider the eyes.
FAQ
How do I make bunny ears stand up?
Crochet them tightly, do not stuff them, and sew them on through both layers at the base with the ear slightly folded. For long floppy ears, do the opposite: leave them loose and let them hang. A strand of pipe cleaner inside standing ears works too, but not for a baby’s toy.
What yarn is best for a crochet bunny?
Cotton gives a neat, firm bunny with clear stitches, good for keychains and decorations. Chenille and blanket yarn give the soft plush look children want and hide uneven stitches, but the stitches are harder to see, so use a marker every round.
How long does a crochet bunny take?
The minis here take about an hour. A worsted bunny with sewn-on arms and legs takes two or three evenings. The 15-inch blanket-yarn bunny takes a weekend, mostly because of the yardage.
Start with a no-sew mini tonight; once the ears go on and it looks back at you, you will want to make the big one.
