Sora the Seal Pup: Free Christmas Seal Amigurumi Pattern

Sora is a round pale grey seal pup dressed for the snow in a red pixie hood with two white pompom ties, carrying a small brown gift sack tied with green. Seals have no legs, so Sora sits on a round body with two front flippers and a tail flipper at the back.

The hood is a cone worked a few rounds wider than the head, so it slips over and frames the face. Everything else is single crochet in the round. Step-by-step photos show every part, and there is a navy hood version at the end.

What You’ll Need

  • Sport / fine (size 2) cotton yarn in pale grey, white, red, light brown and green, plus a little black for the nose
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook (a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests keeps the stitches tight)
  • A pair of 10 mm safety eyes
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle, sewing pins and a stitch marker

The finished size depends on your yarn and hook: thicker yarn and a bigger hook make a bigger Sora.

FAQ

Why is the hood wider than the head?

It ends at 48 stitches while the head is 42 at its widest, so it slips over the back of the head and leaves room for the face.

Can Sora wear the hood off?

Yes. Skip sewing the edge and the hood comes off like a real one; a few stitches at the back keep it from sliding.

Is it safe for babies?

Safety eyes can come loose with hard play. For a baby, embroider the eyes with black yarn instead.
