FAQ

How do you make crochet dragon wings stiff?
Work the wings tightly with a smaller hook, then crochet two layers and sew them together. For more support, slip craft wire or a pipe cleaner inside the edge, like Vincent’s wings. You can also use felt wings instead, like the All About Ami dragon. Skip wire for toys for young children.

What yarn is best for a crochet dragon?
Worsted acrylic is the easiest choice, and it comes in lots of greens, reds and teals. For small, detailed dragons, use sport or DK cotton, which shows stitch texture well. Choose two or three colors: one for the body, one for the belly and wings, and one for horns or spikes.

Can a beginner crochet a dragon?
Yes. Pick a small round dragon with few pieces, like the Baby Dragon by Craft Alotl or the Zodiac Baby Dragon Keychain. If you can work single crochet in the round, increase and decrease, you can make a dragon. Save the bigger poseable dragons for after you have made a few toys.

Pick your dragon colors and let your first little dragon hatch off your hook.
